Hello friends! I know it's been awhile and that was definitely not my intention. The hubby and I were staying in West Virginia with his family with no Wi-Fi. Then, as soon as we got home, I got a cold. Drat! As such, I've been feeling foggy, achy, and completely stuffed up. I haven't felt like writing, except to text the hubby to ask him for more soup or another box of Kleenex ππ€
I'm still recovering today, so I thought I'd share a few pictures from the hubby and I's trip up to Canaan, WV. Canaan is about 3 1/2 hours north of Charleston, about an hour from the Maryland border. I'd never been north of Charleston before so I was excited just for the road trip. I'm one of those crazy kids who likes to ride in the car and see the sites. The road was curvy, up and down (lots of ear popping going on), and gorgeous! It seemed like we were there in no time.
Most of our group went skiing the first day. With my back, physical therapy, and not having skied in about 6 years, I stayed in with my 1 year old niece and her Mimi. The hubby went up the mountain with his 2 cousins, their wives, and Mimi's boyfriend.
I did feel a twinge of jealousy when I saw that view. So pretty and clear!
The hubby said they had a ton of fun skiing π
Mimi and I took my niece for a walk around the resort while the others were skiing. It was really kind of warm, despite all the snow. We bundled her up and found a petting zoo behind the resort! It was kind of crazy, they had all these birds there and they weren't even fenced in. I don't how these birds don't run all over the resort! The white duck (goose?) was pretty feisty though and took a good couple of nips at Mimi!
There were also hens and some beautiful turkeys. The turkeys were quite friendly, and not up to chasing anyone.
The chickens were all pretty friendly π
There were plenty of horses and alpacas too. All out romping in the snow.
My niece checking out those turkeys π¦
Their faces look so mean, but they really are elegant birds.
Checking out the alpacas.
Such a sweetie pie! π
After everyone was done skiing a couple of the days, we headed over to the Canaan Valley Resort to grab a few beers at the lodge. One of my favorite parts of going to Canaan was all the deer. There are so many deer there and they are not very skittish either.
We were so close to these deer and all they did was take us in.
I loved their little snowy noses π¦
The views from the lodge were pretty spectacular.
The views weren't the only thing that rocked at the lodge- they made some darn good pizzas too!
Our little niece playing with her dad and the hubby. She might not have been sure about the hubby's beard at first, but I think she warmed up to it π
No, this is not a picture from Canaan. The day we got home from our trip, we were pretty tired. We'd been driving for 4 1/2 hours plus there was not a lot of sleeping done on the trip. We felt gritty. I was so surprised to see a package in the mail from one of my readers! There's nothing more awesome than receiving a homemade gift. FlowerLady, from FlowerLady's Musings, knitted me a prayer shawl. I was, and continue to be, so touched. Definitely the pick-me-up I needed that day π
Ah, now for the reason I posted this trip wrap-up in the middle of the month. I'm going to be taking a break. Yes, it's that time of year. I'm in great need of some inspiration for my writing. Last year, I only took a 2 week break and I don't think it was nearly enough. In previous years, I've recessed until I was bursting at the seems to share content again. That's my plan this year- to come back when I'm so excited to share I can't stand it anymore.
I hope you guys won't begrudge me this break, it's sorely needed. I need to find the things to say that I haven't said before. I cannot stand writing a post and then vaguely feeling like I've said it all before.
Don't worry. I'll be back ✌π»
Stay in touch! I'll be trying some new stuff too so if it turns out to be totally beyond my expectations, I'll be sure to share it with you.
ReplyDeleteArgh! I'm so late on my comments! But then again, I have talked to you during my break, ha ha π
