Hello friends! Happy Sunday!
Well, I had quite the unexpected blogging break here. I normally aim to post 3 recipes a week, and this week I only got one in. And it wasn't even a recipe. It was a round-up. Needless to say, little Mariota is keeping me quite busy. And I'm not complaining :)
As I mentioned on Monday, the hubby and I headed for North Carolina on Tuesday to pick the little man up. We met his foster mother with him at the shelter, and here's what Mariota thought of the hubby-
Twas love at first sight :)
Little Mariota was extremely attached to his foster mom. After we left the shelter with him, he howled in the car for about 20 minutes. It was heartbreaking. He finally cried himself to sleep, and ended up sleeping for about 2 hours. When he woke, he seemed ok with us. No more howling at least. He actually slept most of the trip. He woke up to use the bathroom a couple of times when we stopped and to eat, but for the most part, he slept the whole way. Which was about a 7 hour drive. Amazing. Him sleeping the whole way made me a little nervous, especially since we got home at 10:30 at night, and you can bet the hubby and I were a little bleary-eyed. Another miracle- Mariota slept most of that night too! He's a good sleeper. And eater. And pooper. He's an all-around good pup.

I cannot believe this little guy was at a shelter. His foster mom told us that Mariota, along with his mom, dad, and a sibling were dropped off at a kill-shelter in Raleigh, NC. It sounded like breeding gone wrong. The shelter his family was dropped off at called the shelter where we eventually picked him up because it was a non-kill shelter. I believe the mother and father were adopted, and unfortunately, his little sibling passed away. Such a sad situation. But, this puppy has a new home now, and his life will be good.
He's obsessed with toys. Obsessed. The hubby and I were discussing how we'd never had a dog that loves toys as much as this guy. I mean, both Haloti and Gizmo liked their toys, but not to this extent. He's constantly in the toy box. I'm pretty sure there isn't a toy left in the box, they are scattered all over the house.
You can find him here most of the time :)
The hubby and I bought him a little pink pig at PetSmart before we left North Carolina for him to have in the car, and he's pretty attached to it now. He takes it everywhere with him. And he loves to sleep with it.
I love that little face. And his little brown nose!
He likes to gather his toys in Gizmo's bed on the floor.
My first shot with all 3 of them close to each other!
That is, until the hubby got a snack...
He got to try half an oyster cracker, but so far, carrots are his favorite. I don't know what it is about chihuahuas and carrots, but I've never met a chi that refused a carrot.
Mariota has really taken to Gizmo. He follows him all over the house, tries to steal his bed, his blue monkey, to nip on his ears, you name it. It's adorable. Gizmo is setting his boundaries, giving a little nip if the puppy does something he doesn't like, but for the most part, Gizmo has really warmed to Mariota. I thought it would take Gizmo quite some time, but it really hasn't. My now-middle-dog is adjusting rapidly, and I couldn't be more pleased :)
Mariota cuddling up to Gizmo.
Mariota's "stair" to the couch. He's become quite adapt at climbing the pillow. He zooms up and down it now.
I really wanted to get some photos of him with my good camera, but the little bugger hardly ever sits still! These i-Phone picks will have to do for now :)
My goal is to be back to posting recipes tomorrow. It will happen, even if I end up posting at 10 pm at night! We'll see how it goes tomorrow.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!
OH MY GOD! He is soon cute, Jessica!!! I'm so glad you found him. He seems to fit right in :)
