The Ultimate Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich

-with a legit moist-maker!

Calling all "Friends" fans! I've taken on Monica's Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich, complete with a moist-maker! For those of you not in the know, a moist-maker is an extra piece of gravy-soaked bread in the middle of the sandwich. I know all kinds of people hate the word moist, but I'm sorry. It's word that must be used, and used often, by foodies. You don't want your chicken to be dry, you want it to be... moist. Same with cake. And brownies. And steak. And all kinds of meats. So peeps, I apologize, but the word must be used.

And what does the moist-maker do to the sandwich? All kinds of wonderful things. All kinds. This was the sandwich that put all other sandwiches to shame. I devoured it, and then immediately felt remorseful that the sandwich really did use the last of the leftovers. I also came to feel sympathy for Ross and the fact his sandwich was eaten by someone else. For those of you who don't watch "Friends", first of all, who are you? And second, Monica makes Ross a Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich which he leaves in the fridge at work. Of course, it gets eaten. When Ross finds out his boss ate the sandwich, he pitches a fit and ends up being put on sabbatical to work on his anger management.

Was the sandwich worth it?

Yes, yes it was. Whoever thought of putting turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy, all on one sandwich, was a genius. A pure, mad, freakin' genius! I added a little mayo, pomegranates, and some garden-grown lettuce. Delish!

You might be saying, pomegranates? Well, people love cranberry with all these Thanksgiving items. I don't happen to love cranberry. I do happen to love pomegranate, and they are sweet and a little tart, like cranberries. Why not? It twas' a good thought, I loved the sweet crunch on my sandwich.

You are going to need the essentials for this recipe: turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes.

And a good quality bread. I chose sourdough. A winning choice, in my opinion.

I toasted my bread before I made the sandwich. By toasting the bread, you are allowing the bread more of a chance to stand up to anything that could make it soggy, like mayonnaise, mashed potatoes, or gravy.

Take one slice of bread for a dip in gravy. Delicious, delicious gravy.

You guys, this is one gigantic sandwich. For me, it was a complete meal. I think this would actually be one sandwich perfect for sharing. Served with a side salad and potato chips perhaps?

Or, you could just eat the whole thing like me. Haha.

Staring at these pictures this morning really makes me want this sandwich again. I can't believe I'll have to wait till next year! I have myself a full-on Thanksgiving tradition from now on-

THIS sandwich :-)

Well folks, I've got a busy day of errands to run. I'm off to Ashland to hit up the feed store, Walmart, the craft store, Kroger, and then a doctor's appointment. Whew. I won't be home till dinner time. Unusual for me. Usually, I'd say it would be a fun day, but I loathe shopping anywhere at Christmas time. But, I'm going to pick up some more Christmas decor (yay!) and all my packaging for this year's Christmas cookies. Pretty soon, I'll be knee-deep in cookie dough. Crazy!

Have a great day everyone!

Ingredients (makes 1 sandwich):

3 slices sourdough bread (or bread of your choosing)
1 cup gravy
1/4-1/3 cup leftover mashed potatoes
1/4-1/3 cup leftover stuffing
3 oz leftover turkey, cooked
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp pomegranate arils
1-2 slices of lettuce

Directions:

1. Turn oven to broil. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Place 3 slices of bread on cookie sheet, and place under broiler. Broil until golden brown (1-2 minutes), then flip bread. Broil until other side is golden brown. Remove bread from the oven.
2. Heat gravy in a skillet over low-medium heat. Stir occasionally until warm.
3. While gravy is warming, heat mashed potatoes, stuffing, and turkey in the microwave until warm.
4. Move gravy into a large bowl. Take 1 piece of toasted bread and dredge into the gravy. Flip and dredge the other side.
5. Construct the sandwich. Distribute mayo between remaining 2 slices of bread. On one side of bread, lay turkey. Top with stuffing. Top with pomegranate arils. Sandwich with gravy soaked bread. Top gravy-soaked bread with mashed potatoes. Top mashed potatoes with lettuce. Drizzle any leftover gravy on top of sandwich, if desired. Place remaining slice of bread on top.
6. Slice sandwich in half, and serve!
