Boozy Salted Caramel Milkshakes

It's a sad day in our house today.

The Oregon Ducks fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes last night, and our house is now in mourning. Even though we live squarely in Buckeye territory, we proudly ran our errands yesterday in our Duck gear. And yes, we got comments everywhere we went. Especially at our little bar we always stop at. We popped in yesterday for a couple of beers, and were definitely ribbed by some good-natured Ohio State fans. I was pretty surprised that no one was ugly, everyone we encountered was a good sportsman.

My FaceBook friends? Another story. Ha!

I really was hoping last night would be our night. The boys worked so hard this season, and Marcus Mariota's season couldn't have been more perfect (minus last night, of course).  I'm proud of them, we are still the second best team in the nation this year and that's not a small accomplishment. We'll get our National Championship someday, and then the Oregon State Beavers can stop bragging about their National Championship that they won in 1941. Yeah, you won a million years ago, before there was even an NCAA. Awesome!

Ok, ok, the wounds are obviously still fresh :)

That being said, these milkshakes are perfect for drowning your sorrows. Vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, whip cream, a dash of sea salt, and of course, a shot of tequila. If you think caramel and tequila are a weird combination, you better think again. It's not a weird combination, it's a wild and wonderful pairing of flavors. The salty, sweet caramel combined with woody, earthy tequila. It's almost enough to make you forget about dropped passes, holes in the defense, punting with 8 minutes to go when you are down by 15...

Alright, alright, I said almost.

These would be perfect for an adult game night, or cocktail party. Heck, they're good in our house pretty much any night of the week. If the hubby didn't have to work tonight, I'd be whipping up a batch for us today! I'm guessing we'll pop in a couple of movies today while we're licking our wounds. After all, Oscar season is just around the corner, and there are tons of movies to watch for the show. So far, the hubby and I have watched "Foxcatcher", "Cake", and "Gone Girl". "Cake" was pretty dry. I think I'm going to have to read a review for the movie because, wow, the hubby and I were not impressed. We were impressed with Jennifer Aniston's acting, but the story? Bollocks. We've got "Boyhood" and "Pride" on deck for today.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! Happy Tuesday!

Ingredients (makes 1 milkshake):

3 small scoops vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus more to garnish glass and drizzle whip cream with)
1 oz tequila
pinch of sea salt
1/4 cup whip cream

Directions:

1. Combine ice cream, caramel, tequila, and sea salt in a blender. Pulse until combined.
2. Using a small spatula, dip the spatula into the caramel sauce. Run the spatula inside your glass to garnish the glass with caramel. Pour milkshake into glass.
3. Top with whip cream and a drizzling of more caramel sauce. Serve immediately.
